US retail forex industry is now showing obvious signs of slow down with number of non-discretionary retail forex accounts held with US based reporting brokers down to record 97,206. This is the lowest count reported since Q3 2010 when first such report was released.

Finally all US retail forex brokers have updated their profitability stats and the result is surprising – overall profitability is up. This is despite the very volatile quarter forex markets have experienced which typically leads to high losses to forex traders. Apparently forex traders coped with this volatility better than I had expected.

All brokers (except Tradestation) have updated their profitability numbers for the second quarter 2011. What clearly stands out is the drop in profitability experienced by clients of all brokers (with the exception of Advanced Markets – but its numbers are insignificant). On average clients’ profitability dropped 4% since last quarter. When talking to brokers most of them stated the same reason for this – increased volatility during the quarter.
